In a major move to boost public infrastructure and urban services in the national capital, Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Wednesday streamlined the allotment of land for several long-pending projects that were stalled due to lack of coordination between various departments.
The LG's intervention follows consistent reviews and subsequent directions aimed at ensuring seamless cooperation between the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and other stakeholder agencies. The move clears the path for critical projects in security, health, education, and environmental management. According to a press release, the security infrastructure of the capital will see a significant upgrade with land allotted for new police stations at Dilkusha Bagh, Sagarpur, Suyurpur, and Kishangarh. Additionally, land has been earmarked for a Forensic Science Laboratory in Narela and Intelligence Bureau (IB) stations at Dheerpur and Tahirpur. Staff housing for the judiciary at Rohini and Shahdara has also been fast-tracked. Under urban services, the LG has cleared the allotment of 20 hectares to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) at Sanoth for a Metro Depot and 16 hectares at Narela for a casting yard. To address the city's water and waste challenges, 151 borewell clearances have been issued to the Delhi Jal Board (DJB), along with land for Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) at eight locations. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has been allotted 24 Fixed Compactor Transfer Station sites and additional land at Ghazipur for the expansion of Waste-to-Energy and Bio-Methanization facilities. The LG has also prioritised community welfare and environmental sustainability. Notable allotments include 8.5 hectares at Holambi Kalan for an E-Waste Eco Management Park, alongside NOCs for 112 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs and five Atal Canteens. Land has also been provided for community halls for Sub-Registrar offices at Dwarka and Manglapuri. In the education sector, the Education Hub at Narela has received a major boost with land allotted to premier institutions including Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) (22.43 acres), Delhi Technological University (DTU) (12.69 acres), and Central Sanskrit University. Furthermore, 4.1 acres have been cleared for a Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Jwalapuri, along with land for schools in Shalimar Bagh and Karawal Nagar. (ANI)
