The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has arrested an alleged associate of the Tillu Tajpuria gang in connection with last year's sensational firing incident in Alipur, where around 12 rounds were allegedly fired during an attempt to grab a disputed property, police said on Wednesday.

The accused have been identified as Sandeep alias Daagu Maharaj (40) and his cousin Deepak (32), both residents of Sonipat in Haryana. Police said Sandeep is an active associate of the Tillu Tajpuria gang.

According to police, the incident took place on October 30, 2025, when 30-45 armed men allegedly reached a disputed plot in Ramjanpur village under the Alipur police station area to forcibly take possession of the property. During the incident, the assailants allegedly opened indiscriminate fire, firing around 12 rounds, assaulted people with lathis and dandas and attempted to break open the lock of the plot.

Based on a specific intelligence input, a Crime Branch team laid a trap in the Narela area and intercepted a black SUV. The occupants allegedly tried to flee but were apprehended after a brief chase.

Police recovered a semi-automatic pistol loaded with four live cartridges from Sandeep, four additional live cartridges from Deepak and seized the SUV used by the accused. A fresh case under the Arms Act has also been registered at the Crime Branch police station.

During interrogation, Sandeep allegedly disclosed that he came in contact with the gangster Tillu Tajpuria while lodged in Sonipat Jail and later joined his gang after his release in 2022. He further alleged that he was provided with a pistol by the gang and remained in contact with its members.

Police said Sandeep also confessed to his role in the Alipur firing case, claiming that he and other gang members had been called with firearms to help in the forcible takeover of the disputed property.

According to police, Sandeep is involved in multiple criminal cases, including murder, attempt to murder and Arms Act offences in Delhi and Haryana. Deepak is also involved in several criminal cases, including murder, Arms Act and NDPS cases. (ANI)
