What could have turned into a stressful situation ended in relief for a passenger after Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBIA), Guwahati, successfully recovered and returned an unattended bag containing foreign currency worth over Rs 10.14 lakh.

The airport, operated by Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL), said in a press release that the incident occurred on June 26, 2026, during routine security screening at Terminal 1, when the CISF detected an unattended bag at the Automated Tray Retrieval System (ATRS).

"Following standard security protocols, the bag was secured and handed over to the airport's Lost & Found team. Inside were $10,720, 175 Chinese yuan, medicines and personal belongings. The name written on the bag and the medicine strips provided the first clue in identifying the passenger. After reviewing CCTV footage, the Lost & Found team confirmed that the passenger had already boarded a flight to Hyderabad. In coordination with CISF and Hyderabad airport authorities, the passenger was traced, ownership verified, and the bag returned to an authorised representative," said the press release.

The incident reflects the vigilance, professionalism and passenger-first approach that define operations across AAHL's airport network, with LGBIA continuing to deliver a safe, secure and reassuring travel experience.

Following the inauguration of its new Terminal 2 in February 2026, LGBIA continues to strengthen its position as the gateway to Northeast India, pairing modern infrastructure with service excellence.

Earlier on June 15, Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL), India's largest private airport operator, was recognised by Prix Versailles, one of the globally renowned architecture and design awards in the world.

According to an official release from Adani, both Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) and Terminal 2 of Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Guwahati (LGBIA), earned a place in the World's Most Beautiful Airports List 2026.

The recognition acknowledges design, sustainability, and passenger-centric planning.

The Prix Versailles is a distinguished annual global award in architecture and design, presented at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris since 2015.

It awards both newly launched airports and terminals for their contemporary creations that embody a rare synthesis of distinctive architecture reflecting how airports are moving beyond conventional design to offer a richer and more harmonious vision of the world, a release said.

Along with NMIA and LGBIA, five other international airports, including Guangzhou, China; Frankfurt am Main, Germany; Kandal Stueng, Cambodia; Pittsburgh, United States; and San Diego, United States, have also been recognised in this list. (ANI)
