Governor Kavinder Gupta on Tuesday inaugurated an Artificial Limb Distribution Camp at Lok Bhavan organised by the non-governmental organisation "ACT Humane" in collaboration with the Himachal Pradesh State Red Cross Society.
On the occasion, around 15 beneficiaries from different districts of the State were provided with artificial limbs, enabling them to regain mobility and lead more independent lives. The beneficiaries, belonging to different age groups, had travelled from Una, Kangra, Rohru, Shimla and Sirmaur districts to receive the assistive devices. The distribution followed a registration and assessment camp organised by ACT Humane at the State Red Cross Building on 4th June, where eligible beneficiaries were identified and their requirements assessed. Interacting warmly with the beneficiaries, the Governor encouraged them to face life's challenges with courage and confidence. He said that unforeseen circumstances and accidents sometimes deprive people of the ability to walk or perform routine activities, but compassionate initiatives like these help restore not only physical mobility but also dignity, self-confidence and hope. The Governor lauded ACT Humane for its dedicated humanitarian service and described the organisation's efforts as an inspiring example of selfless service to society. He appreciated the collaboration between the NGO and the State Red Cross Society in reaching out to persons with disabilities and providing them with modern assistive devices free of cost. Appealing to people to take advantage of such initiatives, Shri Gupta urged persons with disabilities never to consider themselves helpless or inferior. "Every individual possesses immense strength and potential. With determination, self-belief and the right support, one can lead a fulfilling and independent life," he said. He added that society must work collectively to ensure equal opportunities, accessibility and dignity for persons with disabilities. Earlier, Founder of ACT Humane, Harleen Kaur, welcomed the Governor and briefed him about the organisation's various humanitarian initiatives. She informed that ACT Humane has previously organised similar artificial limb distribution camps in Solan, Kangra, Dharamshala and Mandi, where numerous persons with disabilities were provided artificial limbs free of cost. Besides providing assistive devices, the organisation also extends financial assistance to needy patients for medical treatment. She further informed that the organisation has undertaken several accessibility initiatives across Himachal Pradesh. The Children's Park on Solan Mall Road has been converted into a disability-friendly park, while similar accessible parks have also been developed at Rani Jhansi Park and Brockhurst in Shimla, enabling wheelchair users and persons with disabilities to enjoy public recreational spaces with dignity and ease. ACT Humane Himachal Manager Yogesh Sharma also apprised the Governor of the organisation's ongoing activities and welfare initiatives in the State.
