West Bengal Congress president Subhankar Sarkar on Friday accused the BJP government in the state of not taking action over alleged corruption in West Bengal and said a "shadow opposition" has been formed taking advantage of turmoil in Trinamool Congress.

Subhankar Sarkar alleged that the homes of the poor are being demolished in the name of illegal construction.

"People voted for the BJP to fight corruption. Now, those very corrupt individuals have formed a 'shadow opposition.' Today, the homes of the poor are being demolished in the name of illegal construction," he alleged.

"Those who built massive houses and became MLAs are now part of this 'shadow opposition,' which is why their homes are not being demolished. Now, you tell me--who is actually abetting corruption?" he asked.

Referring to Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi's criticism of the TMC during election rallies, Sarkar alleged that the Mamata Banerjee-led party's governance had helped the BJP gain ground in the state.

"Rahul Gandhi said very clearly that TMC's misrule, non-performing governance and corruption paved the way for the BJP to come to power....there is a mechanism behind it. That mechanism involves the Election Commission and the central government," he said.

Sarkar said Congress doors remain open for those who accept Rahul Gandhi's leadership and want to join efforts to "save the Constitution."

"The dictatorship of the BJP going on in the country and their efforts to promote a specific ideology... Rahul is leading the people of the country. Anyone who wants to walk with him, wants to be a partner, the door is open for those people who accept Rahul Gandhi's leadership and join to save the Constitution against injustice," Sarkar added.
