BJP's candidate from the Coimbatore North Assembly constituency, Vanathi Srinivasan, on Friday asserted confidence in the party's victory in the district, calling it a tough fight for the DMK.

Speaking with ANI, Srinivasan, who is also the BJP Mahila Morcha's National President, expressed her gratitude towards the people of Coimbatore South, where she won in the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, adding that she will continue to raise for the entire district.

"... I have been nominated as the BJP candidate from the Coimbatore North Assembly constituency... The people of Coimbatore South had given me a historic victory, and I will always be grateful for their support. I will always be available for the people of Coimbatore South. For me, there is no difference between Coimbatore North and Coimbatore South. I have raised the voice of every area in the Assembly," she said.

She further criticised DMK's candidate for Coimbatore South constituency, V. Senthil Balaji, calling him "corrupt." She added that he will be facing a tough fight against the BJP in the district.

"Our CM Stalin has made our victory very easy, I believe that. Because what is the strength of Senthil Balaji except corrupt money? As far as the characteristics of the Coimabtore peope is concerned, they are very calm and polite, and they do not support people with such criminal backgrounds. So we are confident that it will be very tough for Senthil Balaji to gain support. We are sure that we are going to get 10 out of 10 in the district," she said.

Earlier in the day, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) released its list of 27 candidates for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, after negotiations within the NDA alliance.

While senior leaders like Tamilisai Soundararajan (Mylapore), Vanathi Srinivasan (Coimbatore North), and Union Minister L. Murugan (Avinashi) have been fielded, Annamalai's name is nowhere to be found on the list.

K Annamalai contested the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections for the BJP from the Coimbatore Parliamentary constituency.

However, the BJP's first candidate list sent shockwaves through the state's political circles. K Annamalai, the aggressive "Singham" of the Tamil Nadu BJP who was widely expected to lead the charge, is conspicuously absent from the list.

However, K Annamalai said that he will continue to campaign for the upcoming assembly polls despite being absent from the party's candidate list in Tamil Nadu, calling it his "responsibility."

Tamil Nadu will go to the polls in a single phase on April 23, covering a total of 234 constituencies in the State. Counting of votes is scheduled for May 4. (ANI)
