Ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, political parties have ramped up preparations, with a notable surge in the modification of campaign vehicles. In Tiruchirappalli, vehicle fabricators have been busy equipping vehicles with LED lights, advanced lighting systems, wireless audio setups, and party banners.

Senthil, who has been handling the modifications, told ANI, "Demand has been steadily increasing, and we expect a further surge in orders in the coming days as candidates begin to finalise their campaign strategies ahead of the elections. We have been preparing campaign vehicles for the past ten days. During this period, we have been installing a large number of LED lights, advanced lighting setups, and wireless audio systems. Various modifications are being made to the vehicles based on the convenience and requirements of the candidates."

The vehicles have been seen prominently displaying printed pictures of AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami and the party symbol.

Earlier, the AIADMK released its first list of 23 candidates. It will contest 169 out of 234 seats, while the remaining 65 seats have been allocated to alliance partners.

BJP to contest on 27 constituencies, Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) on 18 constituencies, Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) on 11 constituencies, Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) on 5 constituencies, Indhiya Jananayaka Katchi (IJK) on 2 constituencies, Tamilaga Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (TMMK) on 1 constituency and Puratchi Bharatham on 1 constituency

Earlier, AIADMK released its election manifesto, which includes 297 promises such as providing Rs 2,000 monthly to female heads of households under the 'Kula Vilakku Scheme' and offering Rs 10,000 per family to offset rising prices and taxes. The manifesto also promises ration cardholders lentils, rice, refrigerators, free bus travel for men and women, and three free cooking gas cylinders per year.

Tamil Nadu will go to the polls in a single phase on April 23, with counting scheduled for May 4.

The main electoral contest is expected between the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-led Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA), which also includes Congress, DMDK, and the VCK, and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by AIADMK with the BJP and Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) as allies. Actor-turned-politician Vijay is set to make his electoral debut with TVK, attempting to turn the upcoming elections into a three-way contest. (ANI)
