National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) astronaut Sunita Williams on Thursday emphasised that imagination was the key driving force behind progress as technology catches up with inventive ideas that were once constrained by its "limitations".

Williams attended the Kerala Literature Festival in Kozhikode.

Speaking to ANI, Williams, whose father hails from India, shared her experiences while reflecting on the power of imagination and innovation in today's world.

"Dreams are only as big as their imaginations, and particularly in this environment today, things are changing so rapidly, and people are coming up with ideas and actually making them come true," she said.

She noted the importance of technology in turning these dreams into reality, remarking, "In the past, inventions were potentially hindered by technology, and now technology is racing up to the inventions people are having. Imagination is really the only limitation."

"This has been an amazing trip. It's funny because it's one of those things that you feel good about, like relating to the people and meeting all the people that your parents are from and understanding how all of that makes the person that you are, including the food," Williams said, highlighting the personal connection she feels with India.

She further emphasised how the cultural ties have played a significant role in shaping her identity, adding, "In both countries, it's pretty amazing. I'm really happy and honoured to be here in India with everyone."

Speaking on India's space aspirations, Williams expressed excitement about the country's growing space program, saying, "I'm excited for the Indian Space program. Any ideas are becoming reality. I think as they get more and more involved internationally, as well as on that with their own program, standing on their own two feet, they're going to go to space before too long."

When asked about conflicts around the world, Williams also addressed them and encouraged a global perspective on peace.

"We are all here together. There are big problems on this planet between human beings. We make our own problems, but they're solvable. As we work together internationally, we can solve all of these problems," she said, emphasising the importance of international cooperation and unity in addressing global challenges. (ANI)
