Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday welcomed the winter session of the Legislative Assembly, urging both the ruling party and the opposition to fulfil their responsibilities during the proceedings.

Speaking to the media, Gupta said, "This session of the Assembly has been convened for policy and implementation, where important discussions take place. Especially on issues like pollution, on which the government has invited everyone for discussion, all MLAs should participate in the debate and work together to find better solutions for Delhi. This session is very important, and it is our responsibility to utilise every moment of it for the welfare of Delhi."

She emphasised that the session should focus on meaningful discussions and collaborative efforts to address key challenges facing the national capital.

The winter session of the Delhi legislative assembly commenced today and will go on till January 8.

Delhi's Pollution will be among the major issues during the Winter Session of the Delhi Assembly. While the ruling BJP government has emphasised that the situation has improved compared to the previous party's rule in the national capital, the opposition parties have criticised the government, while the citizens continue their daily lives amid toxic Delhi air.

The first legislative sitting of 2026 is unfolding against a backdrop of heightened scrutiny of governance, making the Winter Session less a routine calendar exercise and more a checkpoint on how effectively the administration responds to questions of performance and accountability.

As the first Assembly engagement of the new year, the session carries added significance. Issues of development delivery, administrative efficiency and financial discipline are likely to dominate proceedings, offering early signals on how effectively the state machinery is responding to civic challenges.

With limited time and heightened expectations, the Winter Session is poised to be a concentrated exercise in legislative scrutiny rather than an extended debate.
