BJP leader Shazia Ilmi on Friday condemned the violence against Hindus in Bangladesh, saying that the way extremists are killing Hindus, lynching them, and this is happening either under the patronage or under the watch of the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus.

Calling the incident sad and unfortunate, she told ANI," The way extremists are killing Hindus, lynching them, and this is happening either under the patronage or under the watch of the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus. This is a very sad state of affairs, and we all strongly condemn it. How can this be allowed in any civilized society? How can it be considered acceptable?..."

The BJP leader also demanded the safeguarding of the Bangladeshi Hindus

"Our clear demand is that the minorities there must be protected, and this protection is the responsibility of Bangladesh itself. Our human rights organisations and our opposition parties cannot be selective in this. There cannot be selective outrage. We understand your concern about the way children and innocent people are being killed in Gaza. You spoke about that. But why not now? Why are they silent now?...," Ilmi added.

The lynching of two Hindu Bangladeshis sparked a massive political row in India, with protests erupting in West Bengal and Assam demanding accountability from the neighbouring country's government.

Multiple organisations, mostly pro-Hindu activists in saffron-clad clothes, dominated the streets of Kolkata on Friday, demanding that the atrocities being committed against minorities, especially Hindus, be stopped. (ANI)
