Ever since a clash broke out between two communities during the Hanuman Jayanti procession in Madhya Pradesh's Guna district on April 12, the police have been on alert mode, an official said on Monday.

The police also carried out drone surveillance as a precaution after tensions prevailed during the Hanuman Jayanti procession in the city. In a recent development, members of Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal submitted a memorandum demanding the arrest of the people involved in the incident.

During the demonstration, the protestors demanded that they be allowed to protest in the area where the stone pelting incident took place on April 12; however, police stopped them from doing so. Police also used mild lathicharge to disperse protestors.

Guna SDM Shivani Pandey told ANI, "A procession was held on April 12 and there was some stone pelting incident that happened during it. Since then the police are on alert. Today, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal wanted to give a memorandum, but they started entering the streets before that. The SP and the collector controlled the situation and took the memorandum."

"As they (protestors) entered some streets, some Muslim women came demanding protection. We assured them that they were absolutely safe. They were sent home in a police vehicle," She added.

It is worth noting that a clash broke out during the Hanuman Jayanti procession in the Guna district of Madhya Pradesh on April 12, when the procession was passing near Colonelganj Mosque.

According to the police, stone-pelting occurred following the exchange of slogans between members of two communities.

SP Sanjeev Kumar Sinha then said that a few people were injured in the incident and the situation was under control.

"The procession was passing near Colonelganj Mosque, during which slogans were raised among the two communities. We got to know that stone pelting also took place, in which some people have been injured. Force was immediately sent as soon as the information was received. The situation was brought under control within 15-20 minutes," Sinha told ANI on April 12. (ANI)
