Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday attended the Mopin Festival, a vibrant and sacred celebration of the Galo tribe, held at Aalo in Arunachal Pradesh's West Siang district.

CM Sarma thanked Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu for the invitation and expressed his gratitude.

"It was a privilege for me to attend the Mopin festival earlier today. I am extremely grateful to Hon'ble Chief Minister Shri @PemaKhanduBJP Ji and the vibrant Galo community for inviting me to this celebration of Prakriti, Shakti and Samriddhi," Sarma said in a post on X.

Sarma also highlighted the shared civilizational heritage between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

"Arunachal and Assam are tied by a deep-rooted civilisational heritage that goes back centuries. The Mopin Festival underlines our bond with Mother Nature, a theme that has resonance in Assam's society. This exemplifies Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat!" he added.

During the event, CM Sarma announced that the centenary of cultural icon Dr Bhupen Hazarika, to be celebrated in 2026, will also be commemorated in Arunachal Pradesh, recognizing his special bond with the state.

The Mopin festival is celebrated across Arunachal Pradesh with traditional gaiety and religious fervour. This festival is most popular among the Galo community.

Dressed in vibrant traditional attire, Galo men and women of all ages took part in the harvest festival, which seeks blessings from the deity Mopin for agricultural prosperity and a healthy harvest. (ANI)
