With the government slated to table the revised Waqf Amendment Bill in Parliament this week, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Monday attacked the Congress and said that they have turned the judiciary into a "joke."

"Congress mocked the entire federal system of our country through Waqf. They also turned the judiciary into a joke. The centre has a right to pass a bill, but the right to challenge it with the help of the judiciary is always there... This (Waqf) was the only law in which the judiciary had no right. We strengthened the judicial system; we did nothing wrong... Union Home Minister has explained in detail how PM Modi brought this act under the judicial system... Congress is only lying for the sake of appeasement. They are harming Muslim brothers along with the nation," CM Yadav told reporters.

The Joint Parliamentary Committee has already given its report on the Waqf Bill. Amit Shah said the bill will not be implemented with retrospective effect and people with grievances have the option to go the court.

After the Madhya Pradesh government outlined the liquor ban in 19 religious cities, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Monday said that there should be a complete ban on liquor.

"During our cabinet meeting, we had discussed the anomalies in our religious places. For e.g., in Ujjain, liquor was banned within a 1-km radius only. We decided that it should either be banned in the entire state or not be banned at all. We decided that in religious cities, there should be a complete ban on liquor," Mohan Yadav told reporters.

The Madhya Pradesh government outlined the liquor ban in 19 religious cities and gram panchayats of the state would be implemented from April 1.

This announcement of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav was approved by the Cabinet at a meeting held in Maheshwar, the city of Lokmata Ahilyabai, on January 24, 2025.

This includes Ujjain, Omkareshwar, Maheshwar, Mandleshwar, Orchha, Maihar, Chitrakoot, Datia, Panna, Mandla, Multai, Mandsaur, and Amarkantak. Additionally, the closure will extend to the gram panchayat regions of Salkanpur, Kundalpur, Bandakpur, Barmankalan, Barmankhurd, and Linga. (ANI)
