Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta on Saturday announced that the 14 newly nominated MLAs to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will serve a one-year term, ensuring that all MLAs will get a chance to be nominated on a rotational basis.
"The newly elected MLAs will have a tenure of one year as nominated members of the Municipal Corporation. All the MLAs will get a chance to be nominated to MCD by rotation," Gupta said. Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta has nominated 14 MLAs to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). Of the 14 MLAs, 11 are from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and three from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). These nominated MLAs will vote in the upcoming elections for the posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor, scheduled for April. The BJP MLAs nominated to the MCD are Anil Sharma, Chandan Choudhary, Jitender Mahajan, Karnail Singh, Manoj Kumar Shokeen, Neelam Pahalwan, Parduymn Singh Rajput, Raj Kumar Bhatia, Ravi Kant, Sanjay Goyal and Tarvinder Marwah, according to an official notification. The AAP MLAs nominated are Pravesh Ratn, Surendra Kumar, and Ram Singh Netaji. Meanwhile, the AAP won the last mayoral election held in November 2024 by a margin of three votes. The BJP, which won a resounding victory in the assembly polls last month, is aiming to secure the post of Mayor and form a "triple-engine government" in Delhi. Regarding his letter to Chief Secretary Dharmendra, Gupta said, "... The Chief Secretary took immediate action and issued a circular which has been sent to everyone... Be it the office memorandum issued by the Government of India earlier or the standing order issued by the Delhi Government, all these reiterate that an elected representative has to be given due respect and their schemes can not be neglected... I am going to take this matter very seriously. Neglecting this will be treated with zero tolerance... I would request people not to play politicise this issue..." Earlier, Gupta had written a letter to the Chief Secretary (CS) Dharmendra stating that government officers were not acknowledging letters, phone calls or messages from Assembly members. (ANI)
