"Assam is going to witness a huge cultural extravaganza": CM Himanta ahead of 'Jhumoir Binandini' programme to be attended by PM Modi

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma joined the artists as they prepared for the humoir Binandini" set to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 24.

The Assam CM on Saturday inspected the preparations at the Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati where 8600 artists from tea gardens across the state will perform the Jhumoir dance. The state government has organised the event to celebrate 200 years of the Assam tea industry.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma shared a video for the same on his official 'X' handle where he stated that 8000 talented from the Assam tea gardens will perform the biggest ever Jhumoir event the world has ever seen. The post read, "On Feb 24, over 8000 talented youths from our tea gardens will perform the biggest ever Jhumoir the world has ever seen. The weight of history is on their shoulders. To share our gratitude & cheer them, I along with Team Assam met them during their rehearsals."

Himanta Sarma spoke to the media after inspecting the preparations of the Jhumoir Binandini event and stated that Assam will witness a huge cultural extravaganza on February 24 and added that the event will be historic with PM Narendra Modi attending it.

"Assam is going to witness a huge cultural extravaganza on the 24th (February) evening. The Jhumoir dance, which is a tradition of our tea tribe community, will demonstrate their culture with 8600 dancers."

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi will witness the event. This will be a historical event. I'd like to thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for accepting our invitation. Along with the Prime Minister, 60 heads of mission and ambassadors of different nations will also witness the huge cultural extravaganza which will be taking place in Guwahati...", he said.

"Our investment summit will be held on the 25th. The summit will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister, and several union ministers, ambassadors, investors from nations, and investors from outside will participate. This is going to change the journey of Assam for all the time to come," he added.

The mega Jhumoir event is the part of 'Advantage Assam 2.0' initiative which will provide a boost to the state's cultural heritage and investment potential. The performers include 5,399 female dancers, 2,175 male dancers, and 2,074 musicians, all of whom will come together to showcase the traditional Jhumoir dance of Assam.

The Jhumoir Binandini programme is among the significant event in Assam's cultural calendar and this year's performance is expected to be the largest and most spectacular as of yet. With PM Narendra Modi set to be present in the gathering and watch the event, it will showcase the cultural heritage of Assam to the national audience.

On Thursday, Assam minister Ashok Singhal opened up about the excitement of the event while speaking to the media. He said, ."8,000 participants will gather to celebrate 200 years of the tea industry, marking the occasion with a traditional Jhumoir dance performance. The event will feature a spectacular dance performance, which will be attended by the Honourable Prime Minister of India, who will join the 8,000-strong crowd to witness this captivating dance."

"It is a matter of great pride for us that the Honourable Prime Minister will be present at the program, which commemorates 200 years of tea gardens in Assam. The event will also be attended by numerous dignitaries from across the country, industrialists, and people from India and abroad", he further said. (ANI)
