Aam Aadmi Party leader and MP Sanjay Singh alleged that the government's request for the president's approval to prosecute party leader Satyendar Jain was "completely illegal and motivated by malice."
Speaking to ANI, Singh said Jain was kept in jail for almost 2.5 years and later was given bail and are seeking prosecution sanction only now after their lawyers objected. Sanjay Singh said, "First of all, this proves that the arrest of Satyendra Jain and Arvind Kejriwal was completely illegal, motivated by malice and done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government because after keeping him in jail for 23 months, you are seeking sanction in Satyendra Jain's case." "That too when our lawyer lodged a protest in the court, nothing was recovered from his house, you kept him in jail for 23 months, he even got bail and now you are seeking sanction from the President. You did this in the case of Arvind Kejriwal, so what we are saying repeatedly is that the motive behind this ED arrest was only and only to finish the Aam Aadmi Party. For this, the Prime Minister should apologise to the country, should apologise to Satyendra Jain's family." On Friday, as per sources, the Ministry of Home Affairs sought approval of the President over the prosecution of the former Delhi minister Satyendra Jain under the Section 18 of the Bharatiya Suraksha Nagrik Sanhita (BNS), 2023. The request was made in order to start the legal proceedings against Jain and was completely based upon the evidences which were gathered by the Enforcement Directorate. (ANI)
