BJP MP Samik Bhattacharya has alleged that efforts were made to destroy the evidence following the alleged murder and rape of a female trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. A court in Kolkata has found the accused Sanjay Roy guilty of the incident.

"There is evidence against Sanjay Roy. Following the incident, 100 People were allowed to visit the place of the occurrence (scene of the crime). The place of occurrence was altered. The preservation of the vaginal swab was also not done properly," the BJP MP told ANI in response to the verdict of the court.

"At any cost, (efforts were made) to destroy all the evidence. The investigation was monitored by the Supreme Court. He further said that a supplementary charge sheet is yet to come," he mentioned.

"An accused can say anything," he said a day after the accused maintained innocence.

Sealdah Civil and Criminal Court on Saturday found accused Sanjay Roy guilty of the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

The court said that Sections 64,66, 103/1 of BNS have been framed against the accused. "There is a complaint against the accused that he went to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital and went to the seminar room, assaulted and murdered the lady doctor taking rest there," the court said.

Ruling Trinamool Congress leaders HAD welcomed the Sealdah court judgement and said that the ruling "proves" that the arrest and investigation made by the Kolkata Police was "accurate."

"The Court has pronounced him guilty. The punishment is yet to be announced. Commenting on it right now is not appropriate but it is proven that the arrest that the Kolkata Police made within 24 hours, their focus and investigation was accurate," TMC leader Kunal Ghosh told ANI a day earlier.

The case, which involves the rape and murder of a trainee doctor whose body was found on August 9 in the hospital's seminar room, sparked widespread protests.

After the incident, Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer at the hospital, was arrested in connection with the crime. (ANI)
