Uttar Pradesh: CBI arrests Railway official for taking bribe of Rs 50,000

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CB) has arrested a Railway official in Gonda Uttar Pradesh for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000, the agency said in a release on Wednesday.

As per the release, the CB arrested an accused SSE, P.Way, Truck Depot, Indian Railways, Gonda (Uttar Pradesh) for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from the complainant.

The CBI said that a case was registered on November 13, against the accused SSE, P. Way, Gonda (U.P.) based on complaint dated November 11.

It was alleged that the accused Officer demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000 at the rate of Rs 100 per ton for loading materials from the Railway Material Depot. It was further alleged that over the last two months, approximately 500 tons of Railway materials have been loaded and accused was threatening to obstruct the complainant's work and to cancel the ongoing tender if the bribe was not paid.

"CBI laid a trap and caught said accused red-handed on November 13, while accepting a bribe amount of Rs 50,000 from the complainant. The accused will be produced before the Court of Learned Special Judge, Anti Corruption, CBI Court No 6, Lucknow on November 14," the CBI said in its release.

Searches are being conducted at the premises of the accused. Further investigation is underway, it added. (ANI)
