Two Himachal Pradesh police personnel from Padhar Police Station in Mandi district were caught red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe on Tuesday.

The State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (SV & ACB) Mandi unit registered a case against Sub-Inspector (SI) Ashok Kumar, the Station Head Officer (SHO) of Padhar Police Station, and Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Ashwani Kumar under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act (Amended 2018).

According to the complaint filed by Virender Kumar, a resident of Gawali village in Padhar Tehsil, the two police officers demanded money in exchange for settling a case registered against him at Padhar Police Station. Acting on this complaint, the SV and ACB Mandi unit set a trap and apprehended SI Ashok Kumar with Rs 15,000 in cash, which he had allegedly accepted as a bribe.

According to the officials, the recovered cash has been seized, and both officials were taken into custody. They are scheduled to appear before the Special Judge's Court in Mandi, where the police will seek their remand for further investigation.

Kulbhushan Verma, Superintendent of Police, (SV and ACB), Mandi Central Range, confirmed the arrests and stated that a thorough investigation is underway to uncover more details.

This case has sent shockwaves across the region, highlighting the vigilance efforts aimed at curbing corruption within the police force and ensuring accountability among public servants. (ANI)
