The Inter-State Council Secretariat has announced a revised composition for the Standing Committee of the Inter-State Council naming Union Home Minister Amit Shah as its Chairman.

This update, which supersedes the previous notification (No. 1/7/2019-ISC) dated May 19, 2022, has been approved by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The changes take immediate effect, applying to all future actions of the committee, while leaving any prior decisions unaffected. The revised committee structure aims to enhance coordination and effectiveness in addressing inter-state matters across the country.

The committee comprises 12 members. Union Ministers Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Nirmala Sitharaman, Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Virendra Kumar and CR Patil as well as Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Odisha, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh are part of the Standing Committee of the Inter-State Council.

The Standing Committee will have continuous consultation and process matters for consideration of the Council; process all matters pertaining to Centre-State relations before they are taken up for consideration in the Inter-State Council; monitor the implementation of decisions taken on the recommendations of the Council and consider any other matter referred to it by the Chairman or Council.

The Standing Committee may, if necessary, invite experts and persons eminent in specific fields to have the benefit of their views while deliberating upon the related subjects. (ANI)
