Reacting to the raids that are being conducted at the residence of an alleged aide of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Sorestate BJP chief Babulal Marandi on Saturday said that the agencies are doing their work.

He said, "Agencies are doing their work. Just like we are doing our work and campaigning, they are also doing their work."

BJP Spokesperson Pratul Shah Deo said that this is "PM Modi's India" where agencies take action when there is any evidence against anyone.

As the raids are still underway, Deo stated that several things are yet to be known, including the reasons behind the raid and recovery from it. He highlighted that this came in the midst of the elections and asserted that "money shouldn't be misused during elections under any circumstances."

"This is Modi ji's new India, no matter how big a position you hold, if there is any evidence against you, then agencies take action and this is election time, so all agencies are on high alert, as there are huge chances of money transaction through 'hawala'. It is to be seen that the income tax department gives what reasons behind this raid and what are the things that were recovered from the raid... In elections, there should be no misuse of money under any circumstances and wherever the agencies get evidence, it takes action," Deo told ANI.

The Income Tax department is conducting raids at the residence of Sunil Srivastava, allegedly a close aide and personal secretary of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, since Saturday morning.

Nine different locations are covered in the raids in Ranchi and Jamshedpur, however, more details on the issue is still awaited.

Notably, this comes days ahead of the assembly elections in Jharkhand. CM Soren-led Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), in alliance with Congress, RJD and left parties is facing major competition from the Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA alliance in the state.

The 81-member Jharkhand Assembly will go to polls in two phases on November 13 and 20, with vote counting scheduled for November 23. (ANI)
