In the run-up to Maharashtra assembly polls, BJP leader Kirit Somaiya on Friday raised serious allegations on Congress, labelling its actions as similar to those of the 'pre-1947 Muslim league'. He accused Congress party of "inciting" Muslim community in the name of religion.

Kirit Somaiya while speaking to ANI said, "Congress has become the pre-1947 Muslim League... Congress is inciting the Muslims in the name of religion and has even said they would fulfil all their wishes..."

He further said that his party workers will go door to door and make the people aware of the policies of Congress.

"Even we will go door to door and make the people aware of the policies of Congress and emphasise staying united because 'batenge toh katenge'..." the BJP leader added.

Earlier on Thursday, terming the Maha Vikas Aghadi's five guarantees for the Maharashtra Assembly election "false" promises, Union Minister G Kishan Reddy slammed the Congress, stating that the party did not implement its poll promises in Telangana, Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka after coming to power in these states.

"Their (Maha Vikas Aghadi's) guarantees are false. Congress party is in power in three states- Telangana, Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka. They have not implemented a single guarantee in all three states," Kishan Reddy told ANI.

The opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) on Wednesday announced five guarantees ahead of Maharashtra assembly polls at a joint rally in Mumbai including Mahalakshmi Yojana for women under which Rs 3,000 will be given per month to one woman in every family and free bus travel for women.

The rally was attended by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Nationalist Congress Party (SP) supremo Sharad Pawar, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Udhav Thackeray, Congress chief in Maharashtra Nana Patole, party leader Ramesh Chennithala and some other leaders of the alliance.

Rahul Gandhi announced the Mahalakshmi Yojana for women. Under this scheme, Rs 3,000 will be given per month to one woman in every family. Besides, every woman will be entitled to free bus travel under the scheme.

288 assembly constituencies in Maharashtra will go to polls on November 20 with counting of votes to be held on November 23. (ANI)
