Sandur (Karnataka) | November 6, 2024 8:11:48 AM IST
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and Congress leader DK Shivakumar asserted that the people of Sandur assembly constituency, which is scheduled to go to polls on November 13, will lead a "life of peace".

Speaking at a campaign rally in Sandur assembly constituency on Tuesday, he said,"I am not going to say we will make Sandur a New York or Beijing, but we will ensure you lead a life of peace. The previous MLA Tukaram has done more work for Sandur than I have done for Kanakapura. He has built a 200-bed hospital and a Rs 35 crore taluk office. Every village has cement roads. Tukaram is undefeated, but we decided to send him to the Parliament. We have fielded his sister Annapoorna as our candidate. You are all educated and aware and I am sure you will elect the Congress party like you have always done."

He further accused Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of making money on deaths during COVID.

"During COVID, BJP made money on COVID corpses. The people of Ballari were leading a life of fear during their rule. You have all seen how the BJP rule was," he said

"BJP did not help any segment during COVID. Nirmala Sitharaman announced Rs 20 lakh Covid package, but no one has got anything from that. I have received the report on Covid irregularities and paints a scary picture," he said.

"There was an atmosphere of fear in Ballari. Siddaramaiah was not even allowed to meet the officials in the district. Siddaramaiah and I took out a padayatra to Ballari. I was also the district in charge minister for Ballari in the past," the Congress leader recalled.

"Our leader Mallikarjuna Kharge brought 371J for the people of Kalyana Karnataka and it has greatly benefited the people of the region. When SM Krishna government placed this proposal before the Union government, LK Advani summarily rejected it. It was Kharge who fought for it and eventually made it a possibility," the Karnataka Deputy CM added.

"Congress party nationalised banks, brought in land for tiller reforms, launched MGNAREGA and other such schemes. Now we have given five guarantees. BJP has not given even a single scheme like ours. Congress party has 136 seats. Our government will come back to power and we need your blessings for that," he appealed.

When asked about the FIR against Kumaraswamy for abusing the investigating officer, he said, "I don't know about it. I don't know what the law is."

When pointed to Ashok's demand for a list of works done in Channapatna, he said he would give a list of things done. (ANI)
