Congress candidate from Wayanad constituency for Lok Sabha by-polls, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said on Monday that the objective of the Bharatiya Janata Party is to remain in power by any means.
Priyanka also alleged that the Prime Minister came to Wayanad and meet the victims of landslide but he has not send funds for their compensation. "My tribal brothers and sisters have no access to a good education because there are not enough institutions for higher education here. You should not be begging for educational institutions...These are your rights and the least the government can do for you and yet you are facing this situation when Wayanad has so much potential...Farmers are suffering and have to take loans as they have no support," she said. "Despite all the national leaders and the PM coming here and meeting those affected by the Wayanad landslide, he has not sent funds for their compensation. The objective of the BJP and the people in power is to remain in power by any means," the Congress leader added. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is extensively campaigning for herself in Wayanad for the by-polls that will be held on November 13. Earlier today, she said that in the last 10 years of the Bharatiya Janata Party's rule in Centre, all they have seen is "division" and "spread of anger and fear." Addressing a public rally in Wayanad's Kalpetta today, Priyanka said, "I want you think that why with so much potential and so many natural resources, you are still in a position where you have to beg for a medical college, where you have to beg for your homes to be built. If there are governments that actually makes policies for the people, then this should not be your position. In the last 10 years of BJP's rule, all we have seen is division, spread of anger and fear." The Congress candidate also emphasized that if Wayanad's infrastructure is properly developed, then it has so much potential for tourism. "You have beautiful Mosques, Temples and Churches. You live in Harmony. You stand for what is right for the unity of this country and for the values on which our Constitution was made. For me, there can be no greater honor than to represent the people of Wayanad," Priyanka said. Earlier in the day, Priyanka Gandhi was seen interacting with the voters of Wayanad during her election campaign. She also met and interacted with the students of Pazhassiraja College in Pulpally town of Wayanad. People gathered in large numbers to take a selfie with the Congress leader who is campaigning for herself in the by polls. Speaking to ANI, Priyanka emphasized that with the right kind of push for agriculture, a lot can be done here. "I asked them (people) what their main issues are. I really think that with the right kind of push for agriculture here, especially for food processing and marketing, a lot can be done here. Strong push for agriculture, food processing and tourism are the areas that we can work on here," she said. "They're giving me so much love and affection, and I really feel it and I will not let them down," Priyanka added. Wayanad, a Congress bastion, is going to see a contest between Congress's Priyanka Gandhi, BJP's Navya Haridas and the Left candidate Sathyan Mokeri in the upcoming bypolls. The bypoll in the constituency was necessitated as Rahul Gandhi decided to vacate the seat and keep the Rae Barel seat following his win from both seats in the general elections held earlier this year. The by-election to Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency is scheduled to be held on November 13. (ANI)
