The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday registered a case under sections related to fraud, forgery, and the IT Act after a complainant alleged he was duped of Rs 3 lakh with a false promise of a prize worth Rs 5.6 crore in the popular television show 'Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC)'.

The CBI also lodged an FIR against an unidentified woman accused of using Prime Minister Narendra Modi's photo to deceive the victim, posing as a senior CBI officer.

According to the CBI, the woman, pretending to be a CBI officer, coerced the complainant into depositing Rs 2.91 lakh to secure the alleged prize money.

The FIR filed by the CBI states that the complainant had been approached on social media by two fake accounts identifying themselves as "KBC Mumbai" and "KBC Kolkata."

The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has also filed a complaint with the CBI.

Further investigation is underway. (ANI)
