Ahead of the Diwali, actor-turned-politician Vijay-led Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam will hold its first state-level conference tomorrow at Vikravandi V Salai village in Tamil Nadu's Villupuram district.
Also known as 'Thalapathy' Vijay has a huge fan following who are excited and eagerly waiting for the day, which comes just ahead of Deepavali festival. Massive arrangements have been for TVK's first state conference. Party flags and banners have been put up from Tambaram to the venue, located at a distance of 90 kms from the National Highways. According to TVK party functionaries "The event is taking place on 85 acres of land. The stage would be designed as the Tamil Nadu Secretariat with 170 feet in length and 65 feet in breadth. Party President Vijay also will host a flag on a 101-foot flag pole which would be permanent for almost 10 years. A ramp was also being constructed in which Vijay would walk among his supporters. 27 volunteer teams like the women's wing, the host team, the medical team, the security team and many teams have been placed to coordinate the arrangements in the conference". Hinting at his party's ideology Vijay has associated himself with left-leaning Dravidian leaders and Tamil Nationalism. Even in the conference venue the flexs of social reformers Periyar and Ambedkar, former Tamil Nadu CM Kamarajar, women freedom fighters Velu Nachiyar, Kamarajar and Anjalai Ammal have been placed. Also, historical figures like Chera, Chola, and Pandiya banners are placed in the venue. What would Vijay speak on? What would be the policy and ideology of Vijay's TVK party? Will he be to achieve success in politics? And so many questions popped up since Vijay announcied his plunge into political arena on February 5 this year. Slowly and steadily Vijay also started to respond to critics. "A few people have been raising questions like whether they know what is politics. Do they know what a conference is? Whether they can sustain continuously in the field?.. When we successfully host this conference they would understand Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam is not a party just for namesake political party. Whoever judges us would understand this is the party which is going to rise and achieve success on political grounds. I ask everyone to understand these things and to work for our conference," Vijay said in an earlier statement. Ahead of tomorrow's conference, Vijay has written three letters to cadres asking them to be safe and maintain discipline while coming for the conference. It is expected lakhs of people will participate in the conference. Villupuram, Cuddalore, Tiruvannamalai, and Kallakurichi District police are managing the security arrangements. As Vijay's goal is the 2026 assembly election, DMK maintains silence and does not engage with the TVK party. Meanwhile, AIADMK has said anyone can start a political party in a democracy but DMK is afraid of Vijay. On the other end, the BJP attacked Vijay saying Vijay is confused with his ideology. Actor Vijay entered into politics and announced the name of his party, Tamilaga Vetri Kazham, in February this year. Tamil Nadu Assembly elections are expected to be held in 2026. (ANI)
