Following Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's action in response to the violence in Bahraich, which included issuing a demolition notice to the accused, Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad expressed on Sunday that he does not understand why CM Yogi is taking this approach, as there is no provision for the use of bulldozers in the rule of law.

Speaking to ANI, Prasad said that the UP Chief Minister appears to want to enforce his own version of law in the state.

"As far as the bulldozer is concerned, it is not mentioned anywhere in the law, whether in the IPC, CrPC, or the Evidence Act. No matter how severe the crime, the law allows for provisions such as the death penalty, but there is no provision for using a bulldozer and demolishing property. I don't understand why Yogi Baba is doing this. He seems to have his own system; he wants to implement his own law in Uttar Pradesh. These actions are not in line with the rule of law, they belong to 'jungle law' where lawlessness prevails, and authorities do as they please," said the Samajwadi Party MP.

On October 18, the Public Works Department (PWD) issued a demolition notice for the residence of Abdul Hameed, one of the accused in the Bahraich violence, over illegal construction in the area.

Hameed, along with four others, is in judicial custody. The accused, Mohammad Talim and Mohammad Sarfaraz, were injured in an encounter with the police on Thursday.

This follows the killing of Ramgopal Mishra during clashes between two communities, which erupted during the Durga idol immersion procession on October 13.

Of the five arrested in connection with the Bahraich violence, two were injured during the encounter, while the remaining three were taken into custody, according to Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Prashant Kumar, who also stated that the situation is now under control. (ANI)
