Uttrakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami attended the World Standards Day program organised by the Bureau of Indian Standards at the Himalayan Cultural Center in Dehradun on Monday.

"Bureau of Indian Standards can play a very important role in fulfilling PM Modi's resolution of self-reliant and developed India. BIS can play a role in ensuring that Indian products can meet the best of international standards," Dhami told reporters.

This year's theme for World Standards Day is Shared Vision for a Better World: Standards for the Changing Climate. This theme emphasises the significance of collaboration in achieving common objectives, especially regarding climate change.

Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), like every year, is celebrating World Standards Day on 14 October 2024 to acknowledge the collaborative efforts of the thousands of experts involved worldwide in standardization and ruminate on the future path.

Bureau of Indian Standards, the National Standards Body of India is a statutory body functioning under the aegis of Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India. It operates various schemes like Product Certification (ISI mark), Management Systems Certification, Hall Marking of Gold and Silver Jewellery/Artefacts and Laboratory Services for the benefit of the industry and in turn aiming at consumer protection.

BIS is contributing to the national economy by providing safe, reliable and quality goods, minimizing health hazards to consumers, protecting the environment etc. The standards and product certification schemes of BIS apart from benefiting the consumer and industries, also support various public policies especially product safety, consumer protection, food safety, environment protection, building and construction etc.

Earlier in the day, CM Dhami met a large number of people who had come to his private residence in Khatima. The CM listened to their problems and directed concerned officials for their immediate solution. (ANI)
