Architects' Association of Assam felicitates 15 conservation workers of Kaziranga Park

Fifteen workers involved in various fields of conservation in Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve and its surrounding areas were felicitated by the Architects' Association of Assam (AAA).

According to an AAA release, Varun Tanti, Vinod Gogoi, Gakul Munda, Jatin Tamuli, Luson Prakash Gogoi, Manoj Gogoi, Anju Bauri, Nipan Saikia, Papul Rabha, Swapan Nath, Kumud Tamuli, Mridusmita Gogoi, Bubul Sarma, Rupjyoti Saikia Gogoi, and Sanjib Rajguru were among the conservation workers felicitated by AAA at an event held on Sunday.

Speaking on behalf of the conservation workers, Swapan Nath urged the architects of Assam to impress upon the authorities concerned to encourage sustainable and eco-friendly constructions in Kaziranga to facilitate tourism.

"Development work in Kaziranga has to take place always keeping in view its environmental impact for the sake of sustainable tourism," said Nath.

As per the release, the felicitation program also marked the culmination of the three-day AAA conclave held on the theme "Integrating Nature in Sustainable Architecture," where around 150 delegates from across the nation took part.

A booklet comprising articles on the architectural history of the North-Eastern region was unveiled by Council of Architecture President Abhay Vinayak Purohit during the inauguration of the conclave, the release mentioned.

AAA President Ranjib Baruah and General Secretary Pankaj Phukan termed the AAA Conclave as one of the biggest and most meaningful congregations of architects to happen in the North East so far. Making special mention of the delegations from Sikkim and Nagaland, they said the ideas of traditional architecture shared by the architects of the region will go a long way in promoting the time-tested concept of building houses that are ingrained in traditional value systems.

President of the Council of Architecture (COA), Ministry of Education, Abhay Vinayak Purohit; 'Airport Man of India', who designed over 50 airports in India and abroad, Charanjit Singh Shah, Utpal Sharma, winner of the Prime Minister Award for Excellence in Urban Planning and Design; Netherlands-origin architect, known for his nature-based architecture in Afghanistan, Nepal, and India, Anne Feenstra; and Bangalore-based architect, who made a mark with her net zero sustainable models, Chitra Viswanath, among others, also shared innovative ideas on sustainable architecture at the conclave.
