Launching a scathing attack against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the alleged sexual assault of two minors in Gujarat, Congress leader Mumtaz Patel said that the if such cases happen in states that are not BJP-ruled, the BJP is the first one to raise voice. She added that nobody spoke about it when similar cases occurred in Gujarat.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi twenty days ago spoke on women's security but if we talk about Gujarat, two major incidents took place recently--in Dahod, where a six-year-old girl child was going home from school. Her principal tried to rape her in the car, but she resisted, after which the principal killed her. A case happened in Bharuch where a 10-month-old girl was sexually molested by a person who used to frequently visit the family. If things like this happen in other states that are not BJP-ruled, the BJP is the first to raise its voice, but if you see in Gujarat, no one raises its voice against such incidents. Why this discrimination just because you have a government here in Gujarat. In Kolkata, they (BJP) carried out candle marches.?" said Congress leader Mumtaz Patel.

Notably, Gujarat police on Sunday arrested the primary government school principal in Dahod district for allegedly killing a six-year-old. The victim was killed by suffocating as she resisted the alleged sexual assault by the 50-year-old principal.

In a separate event, a 10-month-old girl was allegedly sexually molested by a 30-year-old man who later got arrested over the same. The accused was a frequent visitor at the victim's house.

On August 9, a woman trainee doctor was found dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.

The Anti-Corruption Branch of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Sandip Ghosh on September 2.

Ghosh was under investigation for alleged corruption and financial irregularities at the college and hospital, following a directive from a single bench of the Calcutta High Court, which ordered the CBI to probe the matter. (ANI)
