All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) on Wednesday criticised the BJP-led Assam government for the eviction drive against illegal encroachers, which is continued in different parts of the state and claimed that the government has conducted an eviction drive in revenue village and against Myadi land patta holders.

AIUDF MLA Rafiqul Islam told ANI that, if necessary his party will move to the court against the eviction drive.

He also said that, the recent eviction drive in Goalpara district and Sonapur Kachutali area in Kamrup (Metro) district conducted by the state government is against the High Court order.

"Bandarmatha in Goalpara district is a revenue village. But the government evicted several families from this village. Apart from this, the government also evicted Myadi land patta holder families also at Sonapur Kachutali area which is a tribal belt and block area. The government has violated the High Court order as the High Court had ordered the government not to conduct an eviction drive at Kachutali area till September 30. Our party president and president of Assam Jamiyat Badruddin Ajmal and other leaders submitted memorandum to the Assam Governor," Rafiqul Islam said.

The AIUDF MLA further said that, if necessary they will move to court against the government's act.

On September 24, nearly 450 families who illegally settled in Bandarmatha Forest area were evicted by the Goalpara district administration.

A senior official of Goalpara district said, Bandarmatha is a forest area and due to encroachment of the forest land, the human-elephant conflict incidents have been increasing in the area.

"After the eviction drive, it will bring down the Human-Elephant Conflict to a great extent," the official said.

On the other hand, in recent violent incident took place at Sonapur Kachutali area during the eviction drive, two people were killed, and seven others injured in police firing.

22 police personnel, one Revenue Circle Officer were also injured after a mob of around 1000 people attacked the on duty police personnel and government officials during the eviction drive. (ANI)
