After Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday announced his decision to step down from his post, BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj called the move a "moral compulsion" staged after Kejriwal's conditional bail as the Supreme Court has not found him 'eligible' of performing CM duties.

Notably, two days after getting out of Delhi's Tihar Jail, Kejriwal announced on Sunday that he would step down from his post, a decision which came as a shock for Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers and even surprised his opponents BJP and Congress.

Speaking to ANI Bansuri Swaraj said, "Supreme Court has found that Arvind Kejriwal is king pin in Delhi liquor scam and not found him 'eligible' of going CM office and performing duties. So today Arvind Kejriwal has tried to put a moral cover on the compulsions of his bail condition but the people of Delhi are very intelligent. The people know that if Arvind Kejriwal had to resign then why does he need 48 hours? ..."

However, Delhi minister and AAP leader Atishi revealed the reason behind the AAP supremo seeking two days' time to step down and said, "Today is Sunday, tomorrow is a holiday for Eid-e-Milad, so the next working day is Tuesday. That's why two days' time."

Further, Swaraj accused AAP government of doing no works in Delhi and said, "The condition of Delhi is deteriorating because the Kejriwal government has not done any work, it has only done publicity and corruption ..."

Meanwhile, another BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad responding to the move by Kejriwal to resign said, "Why didn't he resign earlier? We are staunch opponents of Lalu Yadav but he too resigned from the post of Chief Minister. Jharkhand CM (Hemant Soren) too resigned from his post. Was he scared that the chair would slip out of his hands? Why does he need two days?... The person who led the movement against big corruption will make such a compromise with corruption, today the people of India have bowed their heads in shame."

Earlier, Kejriwal said on Sunday said that he would resign from the position of Chief Minister after two days and won't sit on the chair of CM until the public of Delhi declares him "honest." He also asked for early polls in Delhi, to be held along with the Maharashtra Assembly polls. (ANI)
