Jammu and Kashmir District Election Wing on Thursday held a SVEEP programme for students to make them aware of voting rights ahead of the upcoming Assembly Elections.

In an effort to promote awareness amongst young voters to participate in the upcoming assembly elections and vote, District Election Authorities under the SVEEP organised a rangoli competition at Dina Nath Memorial GHSS Poonch.

"Art meets democracy! DEO Poonch, Vikas Kundal, ignites voter spirit with a Rangoli competition at HSS Girls Poonch under SVEEP, inspiring first-time voters to paint their mark on Sept 25th," District Election Officer Poonch posted on X.

To promote women's participation in the J&K assembly elections, the DEO announced that 110 women will manage the polling stations.

"Poonch paints a new picture! 110 women will manage polling stations, colouring the electoral canvas with gender equality & inclusivity," the DEO Poonch wrote on X.

Earlier on Wednesday, District Election Officer Sachin Kumar Vaishya initiated action against government employees who failed to attend mandatory election duty training sessions scheduled.

Show cause notices were issued to all Controlling Officers and employees demanding explanations for their absence. Disciplinary action would follow after a thorough review of the responses received.

The DEO emphasised that the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir are to be carried out with the highest standards of professionalism.

He further stressed the importance of strict adherence to Election Commission of India guidelines throughout the electoral process.

Jammu and Kashmir assembly polls will be held in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1. The counting will be done on October 8.

There are a total number of 90 assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir, out of which 7 seats are reserved for SCs and 9 seats are reserved for STs. (ANI)
