TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday celebrated with his family after his party registered a sweeping victory in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections and the Lok Sabha polls.

Naidu was seen celebrating with his family members, including his son and the party leader Nara Lokesh, cutting a cake and posing for a photo.

The ruling Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) led by Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy lost power in the southern state as the BJP-led NDA alliance wrested control.

The NDA alliance comprising Chandrababu Naidu''s TDP and the Pawan Kalyan-led Jana Sena Party (JSP) along with the BJP won Andhra Pradesh. Polls for 25 Lok Sabha and 175 Assembly seats were held in a single phase on May 13, 2024.

As per the Election Commission data, NDA registered a massive victory winning 164 out of the 175 seats in the Andhra Pradesh assembly. TDP won 135 seats, Jana Sena party won 21 seats, while the BJP won 8 seats in assembly elections.

The alliance performed strongly, securing 21 out of 25 Lok Sabha seats in the state. TDP won 16 seats, BJP three and Jana Sena Party two.

During the 2019 elections, YSRCP registered a landslide victory in Andhra Pradesh, winning 151 of the 175 seats in the Assembly, dethroning the TDP government.

The BJP-led NDA is set to form its third successive government at the Centre with the Lok Sabha election results on Tuesday throwing up a verdict that also brought cheer to the opposition INDIA bloc as it put up a strong performance with Congress almost touching the 100-seat mark.

The BJP-led NDA won 295 seats and prevailed over the Opposition alliance - INDIA, which bagged 23 seats, as per the Election Commission of India.

The BJP had won a majority on its own in the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha polls. It won 282 seats in 2014 and improved its tally to 303 seats in 2019 elections. The BJP had set a target of winning 370 seats in the 2024 general elections.

The Lok Sabha elections were conducted in seven phases- on April 19, April 26, May 7, May 13, May 20, May 25 and June 1. (ANI)
