Taking a dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party's claims that the situation has improved in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370, National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah said on Monday that the situation has improved so much that we should thank Allah for it.

"Bade zabardast sudhre hai.' There has been so much improvement that I can't explain. The situation is so good that we should thank Allah. The price of edible oil has increased so much. poverty is touching the sky. Check the price of the gas cylinder. Ask a common man what his condition is. Educated children are sitting at home," he said.

"I am a diabetic patient. I used to take insulin, which was initially Rs 400, then reached Rs 700 and now I am getting it at Rs 1100. From where will the poor get so much money? Then you say that we are progressing. They talk about the Ram Temple; did they build it? Muslims, Sikhs and Christians have all donated to it," Abdullah added.

Earlier, in an unsparing attack on the Congress over its alleged handling of the Jammu and Kashmir issue and not settling it decisively despite being in power at the Centre for decades, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the grand old party held on to Article 370 and 'cradled' it like a baby on a mother's lap till the Centre, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, revoked it on August 5, 2019.

Through the passage of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019 in Parliament, Article 370, which gave special constitutional privileges to the erstwhile state, ceased to exist.

Jammu and Kashmir was split and reorganised into two UTs--Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh--in August 2019.

Baramulla, Srinagar, Anantnag, Udhampur, and Jammu are the five Lok Sabha constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir,

Voting for the Udhampur seat was conducted in the first phase, while the Jammu seat was voted for in the second phase on April 19 and 26, respectively.

Anantnag-Rajouri seat will be voted on May 7, Srinagar on May 13 and Baramulla on May 20.

The results will be declared on June 4. (ANI)
