Port Blair (Andaman and Nicobar) | April 19, 2024 11:59:44 PM IST
Congress MP and candidate from Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Kuldeep Rai Sharma, cast his vote at a polling booth in Port Blair on Friday for the Lok Sabha polls.

The Congress candidate stressed the importance of casting votes and explained how a single voter can determine the outcome of an election for any given candidate.

Speaking to ANI, Kuldeep Rai Sharma said, "I feel great. The power of a single vote of the people--candidates win or lose with one vote. The victory or loss of each candidate plays an important role in forming the government in the country. The public is God. With the work I have done in the last 28 years, I believe that the public will once again think and vote."

Meanwhile, after casting his vote at a polling booth in Port Blair, Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Admiral DK Joshi, appealed to all the voters of the union territory to cast their vote.

BJP candidate from Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Bishnu Pada Ray, also cast his vote at a polling booth in Port Blair on Friday and said that every resident of the island should celebrate this festival and cast their vote.

Bishnu Pada Ray faces sitting MP and Congress candidate Kuldeep Rai Sharma here.

The mega seven-phase electoral exercise commenced at 7 am today in 102 parliamentary constituencies spread over 21 states and Union Territories.

Voters will exercise their franchise until 6 pm today.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is seeking his third consecutive term, while the opposition bloc-INDIA- a coalition of opposing parties formed to take on the BJP in the general elections, is eyeing ousting him from power.

Those voting in the first phase include seats in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhatisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Jammu and Kashmir, Lakshadweep, and Puducherry.

The second phase will be held on April 26 and the remaining phases will be May 7, May 13, May 20, May 25 and June 1 accordingly.
