Washington DC | August 11, 2026 12:27:07 PM IST
US President Donald Trump's media conglomerate, Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), reported a net loss of USD 238 million in the second quarter of 2026, against revenue of USD 1.7 million, Al Jazeera reported, citing the conglomerate's latest filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

In the filing issued on Monday, TMTG attributed the bulk of its quarterly loss to USD 190.4 million in unrealised losses on digital assets, digital assets pledged and equity securities.

The company also reported USD 11.7 million in "accrued interest" and USD 8.1 million in "stock-based compensation", as reported Al Jazeera.

Accreted interest refers to unpaid interest on a loan that is added to the principal.

Despite the steep loss, TMTG said its revenue for the April-June quarter increased 89 per cent from the same period a year earlier. However, the company's losses continued to significantly exceed its earnings.

According to Al Jazeera, citing the SEC filing, nearly all of TMTG's revenue came from its "media segments", which generated USD 1.43 million from advertising and USD 179,500 from subscriptions.

The latest results take TMTG's net loss for the first half of 2026 to USD 644 million, compared with revenue of USD 2.5 million.

TMTG shares, which trade on the Nasdaq under the ticker "DJT", fell 8 per cent by the close of trading on Monday, Al Jazeera reported.

TMTG's portfolio includes the social media platform Truth Social, video streaming service Truth+ and fintech brand Truth.Fi.

Over the past year, the company has expanded into additional areas, including cryptocurrency and, from August 1, market intelligence through its subscription service Truth API.

Truth API gives investors faster access to posts published on Truth Social, where Trump frequently makes announcements on policy issues, including tariffs and the US-Israel war on Iran, Al Jazeera reported.

TMTG interim CEO Kevin McGurn said during an earnings call on Monday that 10 companies had already subscribed to the service, paying between USD 60,000 and USD 100,000 per month in fees.

The service has also raised conflict-of-interest concerns because of the influence of Trump's posts on markets, as reported by Al Jazeera.

Despite the expansion of its business portfolio, Truth Social has continued to trail rival platforms such as X and Facebook in terms of users since its launch in 2022.

The New York Times reported on Monday, citing data from online tracking firm Similarweb, that visits to Truth Social in July were down by more than a third compared with the same month last year. (ANI)
