Prime Minister of Mauritius, Navinchandra Ramgoolam hailed the visit of PM Modi to Mauritius and thanked the Indian government for its wide-ranging activities in the country aimed at further developing Mauritius. He reiterated the historic significance of the deep rooted cultural ties between the two countries and thanked the Prime Minister for extending the OCI cards to the citizens of Mauritius.

In his remarks at the Indian community event, the Mauritius PM said, "It is very rare for politicians like us not to be able to say what you want to say. I am bereft of words because I am so touched by the gesture of Prime Minister".

He thanked the PM for taking out time from his schedule to come and be the chief guest for the 57th Independence Day celebration of Mauritius.

"When you come here, you enrich our country as well.. in Mauritius your contribution in various sectors of the economy is really highly appreciated."

He highlighted the several sectors where India has worked with Mauritius. These include the construction industry, tourism, medical field, hospitality and financial services. He noted that these are vital for the economic growth of Mauritius.

"By the virtue of the deep cultural, historical ties that bind our two countries India has offered unparalleled accessibility to countless Mauritians; with this is a high demand for OCI.", he added.

PM Ramgoolam shared when the indentured labourers arrived in Mauritius, they came with only the Bhagwat Gita and the Ramayana, courage in their hearts and an image of the homeland. "This is why they were intrinsically bound by unshakeable ties to the motherland."

He thanked the PM and Indian Government for extending OCI cards to the seventh generation of Mauritians of Indian descent.

He gave a call for more people from India to invest in Mauritius. He said that the country's investment program named "Bridge to the Future" aims to invite investors and make the process of doing businesses easier in the country.
