US Federal Aviation Administration on Thursday said that a PSA Airline Bombardier CRJ700 regional jet had collided in midair with a Sikorsky H-60 helicopter while on approach to runway 22 at Reagan Washington National Airport at around 9 pm. local time. PSA was operating as Flight 5342 for American Airlines. It departed from Wichita, Kansas.
The aircraft crashed in the Potomac River near the vicinity of Reagan National Airport, according to officials. Fireboats are currently on the scene as the response team works to manage the situation, D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services reported. The details of the crash, including the cause and whether anyone was aboard, have not yet been confirmed.
