Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya on Wednesday said he regrets that the UN Security Council has fallen short of expectations despite Moscow's efforts, Russian News Agency TASS reported.

Nebenzya said: "We regret that the Security Council has failed to take another opportunity to respond to the unprecedented crisis in the Middle East. It has fallen short of expectations. We did our best to help it."

He also noted that the UN Security Council members were focused on their national agendas and failed "to be bold enough to demonstrate strategic wisdom and support the Russia-initiated draft."

After the UN Security Council failed to adopt either Russia or Brazil drafted resolution on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Moscow offered another document. The 15-provision draft incorporated some elements from both Brazilian and US drafts, including Russian amendments to the Brazilian version, according to TASS.

The draft document condemns the radical Palestinian movement and Hamas attacks on Israel. It calls for an immediate ceasefire, establishment of humanitarian corridors and the release of all hostages. It also contains a proposal to cancel Israel's order on the evacuation of Gaza Strip residents to the south of the enclave.

The UN Security Council on October 25 did not pass the Russia-initiated draft resolution on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. The document was supported by four out of the 15 Security Council members. The United States and the United Kingdom voted against it and the rest abstained, as per TASS.

A resolution is adopted when supported by nine Security Council members and is not vetoed by any.

Meanwhile, the Israel-Hamas war has entered its 20th day.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that his goal against the Hamas war is "saving the nation" and promised that a ground incursion to destroy Hamas in Gaza will start soon, The Times of Israel reported on Wednesday.

He said Israel is getting ready for a ground operation, but will not share when or how. He says he will not share the range of considerations involved. (ANI)
