Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday said the sanitation workers have got the respect they deserved under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, adding that their concerns were ignored earlier.
Addressing a gathering at a safety and dignity camp for sanitation workers, CM Gupta said, "After PM Modi came to power, sanitation workers got the respect they deserved, which they had not received before. PM Modi sat with these workers and understood their problems." Highlighting her government's initiatives for the sanitation workers, Rekha Gupta said thatwhether it involves deep cleaning or general sanitation, the responsibility for these tasks has been assigned to the workforce, and the government has taken charge of ensuring their safety. "Under PM Modi, the Delhi government is also working in the same direction.We have allocated the budget to provide 1,000 litter-picker machines.Yesterday, the Cabinet also approved the procurement of 70 large and 30 small cleaning machines.Every Swachta Mitra should work wholeheartedly and with the necessary facilities at their disposal," she said. At a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday, the government approved the deployment of 30 electric vehicle-based mechanical road-sweeping machines on smaller roads and a real-time PM2.5 and PM10 source monitoring system in collaboration with IIT Delhi. Shedding light on initiatives for women sanitation workers, she continued, "We have arranged for 'Pink Cards' for all women in Delhi.For our daughters, the government will deposit funds ranging from 1 lakh to 1.25 lakh in bank accounts to cover their education from birth through collegethe 'Lakhpati Betiyan' scheme." She also announced that an 'all-in-one' test will be conducted by the government for newborn babies, which will be a package of 56 tests to ascertain if the baby has no other ailment at the time of birth. "Such tests, which in the market are being charged at Rs 10,000, we will be charging nothing," CM said. (ANI)
