Varanasi Municipal Commissioner Himanshu Nagpal conducted a site inspection of the solid waste processing plant in Karasada on Sunday.

During the inspection, he issued strict instructions to increase the plant's processing capacity, given the increasing volume of waste generated in the city.

The Municipal Commissioner stated that the city previously received approximately 600 to 700 tons of waste daily, which has now increased to approximately 1,100 tons. Additional trommels will be installed at the plant to handle this significant increase in waste. Furthermore, all the RDF line equipment has arrived at the plant, and instructions have been given to install and commission it as soon as possible.

In order to improve the plant's functioning, a proposal has been prepared to make the Leachate Treatment Plant (LTP) fully functional. Instructions have also been given to construct a concrete floor and shed to store the compost produced.

Instructions have been given to treat and remove the waste accumulated along the West Stem Road of the West to Western route, clearing the space so that the road can be widened and there is no obstruction to the movement of garbage vehicles.

The Municipal Commissioner has also ordered routine lab testing of the compost and a drone survey of the entire plant premises every month.

Additionally, improvements have been made to the maintenance and upkeep of the local office located at the plant. Additional Municipal Commissioner Durgesh Mishra, Assistant Municipal Commissioner Indra Vijay, and other officials were present during the inspection.

A day ago, Varanasi Divisional Commissioner S Rajalingam also conducted a site inspection of the 3.85-kilometre Varanasi Ropeway Project, spanning from Varanasi Cantt to Godaulia, to review the progress of ongoing work.

During the inspection, the project's overall physical progress was reported to be 94.35%. During the inspection at the Cantt station, the Divisional Commissioner expressed strong displeasure with the concessionaire's work and directed them to complete all major finishing work by September 25th, expedite the FOB and Shikhar work, clean the escalators, lifts, and railings, and prioritise the installation of baggage scanners and DFMD (Door Frame Metal Detector).

Instructions were given to complete the stormwater interconnection at Vidyapeeth Station by September 15th, and to expedite the testing of TOM/TVM and paving work.

Divisional Commissioner also inspected the Rathyatra Station, where he coordinated with the Jalkal Department to complete the sewer/water line interconnection by September 15.

Lighting and facade work at Church Station was also directed to be completed quickly. At Godaulia Station, the de-boarding and boarding side work was directed to be completed by October 31 this year.

Pooja Mishra, Project Director of NHML, and S. Subba Rao, Project Director of the Concessionaire, were present during the inspection. Once completed, the ropeway project will operate approximately 16 hours a day, with a capacity of 3,000 PPHPD (Passengers Per Hour Per Direction), making the journey from Cantt to Godaulia in just 15 minutes.(ANI)
