The father of one of the three newborns who died in a fire at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of the District Women's Hospital in Amravati has demanded justice and strict action against those responsible for the tragedy.

Speaking to ANI, Swapnil Borge said his child was born at around 10 am on Monday and was taken to the hospital's upper floor shortly after the admission formalities were completed. He said the newborn was placed in the NICU, where babies were kept in glass enclosures.

Borge said his wife was admitted on a different floor while the newborn remained in the NICU. He recalled that the family was later asked to leave the hospital premises and sleep outside.

According to Borge, "The incident occurred at around 3.00 am; an explosion took place in the area where the babies were kept."

He said the family only wants those responsible for the incident to be held accountable.

"We just want justice. Just that the guilty be punished; that is all," Borge said.

Three newborns died after a fire broke out in the NICU of the District Women's Hospital in Amravati in the early hours of Monday.

As per preliminary information, the fire broke out at around 3.30 am on the third floor of the hospital, reportedly after an explosion in a ventilator inside the neonatal unit.

Doctors, nurses and other hospital staff immediately began an evacuation operation and rescued several infants from the affected ward. (ANI)
