Ladakh: Earthquake of magnitude 3.5 strikes Leh

An earthquake of magnitude 3.5 struck Ladakh's capital, Leh, early Monday morning, reported the National Centre for Seismology (NCS).

Sharing details in a post on X, the seismic monitoring agency stated that the tremor occurred at a depth of 120 km at 8:25 AM Indian Standard Time (IST).

"EQ of M: 3.5, On: 24/08/2026 08:25:07 IST, Lat: 36.700 N, Long: 74.343 E, Depth: 120 Km, Location: Leh, Ladakh," the post read.

Hours before the Leh earthquake, Himachal Pradesh's Chamba district was also hit by a mild earthquake of magnitude 3.0 at 3:40 AM on Monday.

Providing details about the Chamba quake, the NCS posted, "EQ of M: 3.0, On: 24/08/2026 03:40:19 IST, Lat: 32.925 N, Long: 76.145 E, Depth: 8 Km, Location: Chamba, Himachal Pradesh."

Earlier, an earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale struck the Leh region on Sunday.

According to the NCS, Sunday's tremor was recorded at a depth of 150 km at 3:34 PM IST.

"EQ of M: 4.6, On: 23/08/2026 15:34:42 IST, Lat: 36.736 N, Long: 74.372 E, Depth: 150 Km, Location: Leh Ladakh, Ladakh," the post read. (ANI)
