Madhya Pradesh Congress President Jitu Patwari said the party's victory in the Datia Assembly by-election reflected its strengthened organisation, after Congress General Secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal held a review meeting with state leaders at Indira Bhawan in New Delhi.

Speaking to the reporters, Patwari on Tuesday said, "The Congress party's victory in the Datia Assembly by-election was the result of a strengthened organisation, and I thank the people of Datia for this."

"The strengthening of the organisation has infused new energy and enthusiasm into the party in Madhya Pradesh. Today, following a lengthy discussion, a comprehensive plan has been formulated on how to effectively become the voice of the people moving forward," he further said.

Madhya Pradesh Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar said the Congress discussed its future strategy and organisational strengthening during a review meeting.

He added that the Datia Assembly by-election victory has boosted the morale of party workers across the state.

"This was an organisational review... future strategies were discussed. Guidelines were issued regarding how district presidents should conduct reviews at the grassroots level... There is enthusiasm and a boost in morale among party workers across the state following Congress candidate Ghanshyam Singh's victory in the Datia Assembly by-election... This has benefited the organisation... Nevertheless, we must remain prepared on all fronts," Singhar said.

Congress candidate Ghanshyam Singh won the Datia Assembly by-election, defeating BJP's Ashutosh Tiwari by a margin of 6,016 votes, according to the Election Commission of India (ECI).

Singh secured 66,757 votes, while Tiwari polled 60,741 votes after all 15 rounds of counting.

The voting for the high-stakes Datia Assembly by-election in Madhya Pradesh was held on July 30.

The bypoll was necessitated following the disqualification of sitting Congress MLA Rajendra Bharti in April, after a Delhi court convicted and sentenced him in a bank fraud and cheating case. (ANI)
