Special NIA Court at Patiala House complex, New Delhi, on Thursday allowed the plea of Tahawwur Hussain Rana to make a telephone call to his daughter. Rana is an alleged mastermind of the 26/11 Mumbai Terror attack case of 2008.

He had urged the court to allow him to make a telephone call to his daughter and wife. He also wanted to talk to his wife, Dr Samraz Akhtar Rana, on her birthday in the coming days.

Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Prashant Sharma passed the order in a closed courtroom.

Rana has been allowed to talk to his daughter regarding the discussion to engage a lawyer to represent him before the NIA court. The court order has been sent to the jail authorities.

One counsel connected with the case confirmed that permission has been granted to him to make a telephone call. He was earlier also allowed to talk to his daughter as she is the main decision maker in the engagement of an advocate to represent his father.

Tahawwur Hussain Rana was extradited from the USA on April 10, 2025, in connection with the conspiracy of the 26/11 Mumbai Terror attack case.

Earlier, the court had provided a Legal Aid defence counsel (LADC) to represent Rana. However, after some time, Rana informed the court that he wished to engage a private counsel. Since then, he has been granted permission to talk to his family to engage a lawyer. (ANI)
