Police have arrested another accused in connection with the daylight hacking of a youth in Tamil Nadu's Ranipet district, while the victim continues to remain in critical condition.
Mani, who was chased and hacked by a group in broad daylight on Vellore Main Road in Arcot, is undergoing intensive care at a private hospital. Doctors said his condition remains critical. Following the incident, Arakkadu Police arrested Kathirvel, who allegedly assisted the prime accused, Karthik, in the attempted murder. Police said a case has been registered against the accused under four sections of the law. Kathirvel has been remanded to judicial custody and lodged in Vellore Central Prison. The incident has sparked fear among residents after CCTV footage of the attack surfaced and circulated widely. According to police, the victim, Mani (30), a resident of Krishnapuram who runs Everest Auto Consulting on Vellore Main Road in Arcot, had a longstanding dispute with Karthik (24), a resident of Kollapalayam in Arcot. Preliminary information suggests that the rivalry dates back to 2024, when Mani allegedly threatened some of Karthik's friends. Police said Karthik allegedly confronted Mani on Wednesday morning, leading to an argument before allegedly taking out a knife concealed on his motorcycle and repeatedly attacking him while chasing him along the road, inflicting severe head injuries. Personnel from Arcot Town Police rushed to the spot after receiving information and shifted the injured Mani, who was found unconscious, to the Arcot Government Hospital in an auto-rickshaw. After first aid, he was referred to Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore, for advanced treatment. Police had earlier arrested the prime accused, Karthik, and launched an investigation into the incident. The attack has created tension in the area and raised concerns among residents over violent crimes allegedly committed under the influence of narcotic substances. (ANI)
