Delhi Police has denied allegations of custodial death after the family of a man accused police personnel of committing assault.
According to the Police, three persons, including the deceased's brother, were found in an intoxicated state in the Mehrauli area on July 14. Police said only the deceased's brother and another individual were taken to the police station for questioning, while the deceased was not taken into police custody or brought to the police station. Police further said that the deceased was suffering from tuberculosis. Rejecting the allegations, Delhi Police said the claims were false and added that a vigilance inquiry had been initiated into the matter. The police also said the exact cause of death would be ascertained after the post-mortem examination. Further details are awaited. Earlier, on July 7, in a separate incident, a 45-year-old man, identified as Mahesh, was stabbed to death while his brother sustained injuries after they were attacked by four to five persons in Delhi's Mangolpuri area. The victim's family alleged that police had failed to act on an earlier stabbing incident involving the accused, claiming that timely action could have prevented the murder. According to Delhi Police, the incident took place in the Mangolpuri area under the jurisdiction of Raj Park Police Station. One person died in the attack, while his brother was injured. Police said four to five accused persons allegedly carried out the stabbing before fleeing the spot. Speaking to ANI from the hospital, the deceased's brother, Mukesh, alleged that the attackers struck without warning and said the family had earlier approached the police over a similar incident. "They suddenly came up behind me. I was stabbed, and when my brother came, he was stabbed in the chest. One year ago, they stabbed my sister with a knife. No action has been taken regarding the incident. They should be punished," Mukesh said. (ANI)
