Gurugram Police have detained 13 alleged Bangladeshi nationals suspected of residing illegally in the city and initiated the process for their deportation, an official said on Thursday.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Naveen Sharma said the Crime Branch had received information around a month ago that some Bangladeshi nationals were residing illegally in India and working as labourers at different locations in Gurugram. "Acting on this intelligence, the team detained 13 Bangladeshi nationals who were staying in the country illegally. Upon verifying their documents, it was confirmed that they had entered India unlawfully. Consequently, proceedings for their deportation were initiated," Sharma said. He said the 13 detainees were being taken to Malda Town in West Bengal under the escort of an inspector and a team of 23 police personnel, where they would be handed over to the security agencies for further deportation proceedings. According to Sharma, the detained individuals had been living in different parts of Gurugram, working as labourers and residing as tenants. The ACP also appealed to the public to assist law enforcement by reporting suspicious individuals. "We appeal to all citizens to contribute to national security. If you come across individuals such as tenants, labourers, domestic workers, hotel staff, or construction workers whom you find suspicious, please report the information by calling 112 or contacting your nearest police station," he said. Meanwhile, on Monday, the Mangaluru City Police also detained 11 Bangladeshi nationals who were found working at two different construction sites under the Urva Police Station limits. Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy confirmed the development, stating that the detained individuals include three people from one site and eight from another. "Report will be sent to FRRO for orders to detain them and deport. Document collection is in process," said the Police Commissioner. "A case will be booked against the middleman from West Bengal who brought them to work here along with some Indian labourers from other states of India," the Police Commissioner added. (ANI)
