West Bengal Minister Agnimitra Paul on Tuesday said the police had acted promptly in the rape and murder case of a 12-year-old girl in Baruipur and all the accused were apprehended in 24 hours. She also accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) of politicising the incident.
She also demanded the release of pending inquiry reports into incidents of crimes against women that took place during former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's tenure. "There is a zero-tolerance policy against crime, and it will be implemented just as the Chief Minister has said. Within 24 hours, all the accused whose names appeared in the FIR in the Baruipur case have been apprehended. This morning, when the police were taking him to recreate the crime scene, he tried to flee and attempted to attack the police. This will not be tolerated," she said. Targeting the TMC, Paul alleged that women did not receive justice during the party's tenure. "The former Chief Minister should march, but first and foremost, the commission's report that was supposed to come; bring that report... We want to know what conversation you had with Vineet Goyal at night regarding the R.G. Kar case... You should hold candlelight marches for those thousands of rape cases that occurred in West Bengal during your tenure," she said. (ANI)
